Let The Games Begin - Big West Track & Field Championship Starts This Weekend




This year the 2006 Track & Field Championships, hosted by Cal State Northridge, has been spread among two weekends of action. The first weekend, Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7, will feature both the heptathlon and decathlon. Saturday's action begins at noon with the decathlon's 100 meters, followed by the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters. The Heptathlon opens with the 100 meter hurdles at 12:30 p.m., with the high jump, shot put and 200 meters to follow. The conclusion of the decathlon begins at 11:00 a.m., while the hepthalon is slated for a noon start.

Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13 will showcase the second half of the Big West Track & Field Championships. The field events begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, while the track events kickoff at 2:30 p.m. Saturday opens with the field events at noon and the track events at 3:00 p.m.

While the Big West championship multi-events are taking place this weekend, all seven schools are scheduled to compete in various track & field meets for their last chance to qualify for the second half of the track & field championships. Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara are set to compete in the Occidental Invitational. The Cal Poly Mustangs are traveling to the Modesto Relays, while UC Irvine heads to the Claremont Classic.
