Three Outstanding Performances Gives A Trifecta For Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Three excellent outings by pitchers Craig Baker (CSUN), Andrew Carpenter (LBSU) and Ty'Relle Harris (Pacific) earn them a share of the Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors, for the week ending Feb. 26.

Baker, recorded nine strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched. The Hemet, Calif., native went hitless for the first 5 2/3 innings tossed. The 1-0 win over UC Riverside was his third of the season. He currently leads the conference in strikeouts with 39 and innings pitched (35.0).

Against Illinois-Chicago, Long Beach State's Andrew Carpenter pitched the first one-hitter since 1991 and fourth all-time for the 49ers, which earned him his second consecutive pitcher of the week honors. His only hit came in the seventh inning, as the batter was extinguished on a double play ball. The Vacaville, Calif., native pitched just one over the minimum and used 94 pitches. He tallied eight strikeouts to tie his career-best he set last week, as LBSU went on to down the Flames 6-0.

In one of the toughest ballparks to pitch in, Pacific's Ty'Relle Harris threw 8.1 innings to lead the Tigers to a 2-1 win over Nevada. Harris limited the Wolf Pack to one hit through eight innings before giving up a single run on two hits in ninth. The 6-4 freshman had a career-high strikeouts and threw 102 pitches. For the season, Harris leads the Tigers with a 1.14 ERA and three wins.
