The Davis Shootout will be a one-day affair this weekend but it will be a difficult day for the Aggies as they take on two clubs ranked in the top four in the country. UCD will take on regional rivals #4 California and #2 Stanford. Davis isn't the only school facing top competition over the weekend as UC Irvine is slated for matchups against #3 UCLA and #20 Indiana.

AROUND THE BIG WEST

Big West Celebrates 50/35
The 2018-19 season marks the 50th anniversary for men’s sports in the Big West Conference, and the 35th for women’s.  All season long, the Big West Conference will celebrate the history of all conference sports.  Join us as we pay homage to the student-athletes, coaches, staffs, communities and fans who have helped pave the way.

• Former Hawai’i great Monika Eggens may have had the greatest single offensive season in Big West history in 2013. That year marked the return to the Big West for UH and Eggens set single season conference marks for goals (101) and goals per game (3.06), while also recording 46 assists and 71 steals. Eggens, who was a senior that year, was named Big West Player of the Year, Big West Tournament MVP, first team All-America and landed on the NCAA All-Tournament team. Someone will be hard pressed to break her records as she recorded 18 more goals than the next best mark and is the only player in league history to average three goals in a single season.

• The 2010 CSUN squad may hold the distinction of best non-championship team in Big West history. That Matador team set a single-season Big West record with 28 wins and tied for the regular season crown but lost in by a goal in the league Tournament final. The next highest single season win total is 25, achieved in three seasons following the Matadors’ historic run.

1-2 Punch in Goal
UC Santa Barbara is spoiled in goal as it sports two outstanding options. Kenzi Snyder has started 10 matches and has recorded 64 saves in 272 minutes for a 4.94 goals against average. Becca Buck has started two contests and appeared in seven overall, stopping 48 shots, flashing a 68.6 save percentage and a 4.00 goals against average.

Robinson Leads Helping Hand
While others on her team have garnered headlines for their goal scoring prowess, Chloe Robinson may be UC Davis’ best all around player in the early part of the season. Robinson leads the league in assists (17) and ranks second in points (33) while adding 16 goals of her own.

International Connection
Long Beach State’s foreign connection has proven to be one of the more prolific scoring duos in the league so far. Orsi Hertzka, a native of Hungary, is one of the top scorers in the Big West in her freshman season, tying for fourth on the league leaderboard with 23 scores. Her senior teammate Tori Morrissey, an Australian export, has 10 goals and a pair of assists to supplement the Beach attack.

Three in the Top 10
The national rankings continue to sport three Big West teams among the top 10. Hawai’i is in the fifth slot followed by UC Irvine at #7 and UC Santa Barbara at #9. The league has had three teams ranked in the top 10 in each of the four Collegiate Water Polo Association rankings so far this season.
