Big West Places 14 Players On United Soccer Coaches Women's All-West Region



2018 United Soccer Coaches All-Region

A total of 14 Big West student-athletes were honored on the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Women’s Division I All-West Region Team for their standout performances this season as announced, Monday.

Eight Big West programs appeared on the list including representatives from regular season and Big West Tournament champion, Long Beach State, in addition to Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, UC Davis, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and Hawai‘i.

The West Region is comprised of programs from the Big West, West Coast and Western Athletic Conferences.

The Beach led the way placing Big West Tournament MVP Dana Fujikuni and fellow senior Ashley Gonzales on the first team along with UCSB’s Mallory Hromatko and Raisa Strom-Okimoto of the Rainbow Wahine.

Big West Midfielder of the Year Fujikuni tallied 16 points on the year with six goals and four assists.  The senior started all 21 matches for the Beach and netted two game-winners as she helped LBSU sweep the Big West titles.  A First Team All-Big West selection, Fujikuni received her first All-Region nod of her career.

Gonzales scored seven goals on the season, tied for the third-most in league and added two assists for 16 points.  The senior set a LBSU record with 36 career goals as she earned her second All-Region honor after receiving the award in 2016.  The forward started all 21 contests for the Beach and tallied two game-winners.

Hromatko led the Big West with six assists to help the Gauchos to a 13-7-1 overall record and a 5-2-1 mark in league to help UCSB to its first conference tournament appearance since 2015.  A first Team All-Big West honoree, the defender earner her second career Big West Player of the Week award on August, 27.  The senior started every match for the Gauchos.

Strom-Okimoto led the Big West with 12 goals and 27 points with a league second-most 55 shots on the year.  The senior tallied three game-winners and earned two Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors this season.  The senior finished in the top 10 in nine different career offensive categories for the Rainbow Wahine including: points (57), goals scored (22), assists (13), game-winning goals (7), shots (183), shots on goal (81), multiple assist matches and overtime goals.

Cal Poly placed senior defender Chelsea Barry on the second team while Cal State Fullerton’s senior defender Nano Oronoz earned the honor.  Seniors Marissa Favela of CSUN, Alexis Smith of UC Davis and Madeline Feist of UC Riverside represented their respective schools while UC Santa Barbara junior Shaelan Murison rounded out the second team.

All Big-West third team honorees include Cal State Fullerton’s Atlanta Primus, UC Riverside’s Kyra Taylor and Amanda Roy and UC Santa Barbara’s Madeline Gibson.
