The 2017-18 campaign came to an end for the UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team with a 4-1 loss to No. 10 USC in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday at Marks Stadium. The Gauchos end the year 18-7 overall.

Although the Gauchos lost the doubles point early, they fought back in singles and actually won the first set in four of the six contests.  Victor Krustev picked up UCSB's lone point at No. 6 singles.  UCSB had opportunities for more points – taking the contests at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 to three sets – but lost two of them while the other two went unfinished.

UCSB senior Simon Freund was well on his way to capturing a second point for his team, leading 5-3 in the third set over USC's Jack Jaede, but the match concluded before he had a chance to finish out the match.
