Everett Maltby of UC Davis and Palina Dubavets of UC Santa Barbara earned the final Big West Tennis Athlete of the Week awards for 2018 with strong performances against conference opposition.
Maltby Defeats UC Irvine, UC Riverside Opposition
Everett Maltby (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS) closed out the regular season with two singles wins and three more in doubles, as the UC Davis senior earned Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
Maltby won both of his singles contests at No. 2 against Sasha Krasnov of UC Irvine and Benjamin Kilchherr of UC Riverside, helping the Anteaters win by team scores of 4-1 and 6-1, respectively.
He knocked off Krasnov by a 6-4, 6-3 score and defeated Kilchherr, 6-0, 6-2. With partner Ivan Thamma, Maltby went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles, improving to 15-3 overall on the year. Maltby sports an 8-10 singles dual record this season.

Dubavets Helps UC Santa Barbara Win Regular Season Title
UC Santa Barbara senior Palina Dubavets (Minsk, Belarus/TCU) garnered her second Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honor this season as she helped her squad clinch the conference regular season title.
Dubavets won twice at No. 1 singles and twice at No. 1 doubles in UCSB’s 4-0 victories over CSUN and Cal Poly. The wins improved the Gauchos to 7-1 in league play as the program won its first regular season title.
Dubavets topped CSUN’s Monika Van de Vondel by a 6-1, 6-3 score and took care of Cal Poly’s MacKenzie Worsnop in nearly identical fashion, winning 6-2, 6-3. The No. 42-ranked tandem of Dubavets and Natalie Da Silveira easily won a pair of No. 1 doubles matches, including a 6-0 triumph over the Mustang duo of Worsnop and Abigail Bacharach.
