Keeping their squads in contention for regular season conference crowns, Joseph Guillin and Lena Pacholski claimed this week's Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.

Guillin Improves To 18-2 In Singles

Receiving his first career Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honor, UC Santa Barbara sophomore Joseph Guillin (Paris, France/Florida) remained a key cog in his team’s late season surge.

Guillin helped the Gauchos extend their winning streak to seven straight matches with wins against No. 50 Loyola Marymount (4-3), UC Davis (7-0) and UC Riverside (7-0).  UCSB improved to 4-0 in Big West play.

Guillin was spectacular all-around, going a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles.  He improved to 18-2 on the year in dual singles matches with three straight set victories, including a 6-4, 7-5 triumph against LMU’s Lukas Moenter that trimmed UCSB’s deficit to 3-2.

Moving from No. 2 to No. 1 in the lineup for the two league tilts, Guillin got past Ivan Thamma of UC Davis by a 7-6, 6-3 score, then triumphed against UCR’s Pawel Jankowiak (6-3, 6-0).  In doubles, he and partner Victor Krustev defeated both their Aggie and Highlander counterparts by identical 6-1 scores.

Others nominated: Axel Damiens (Cal Poly); Mason Hansen (UC Irvine)

Pacholski Helps Long Beach State To Two Big West Wins

Senior Lena Pacholski (Fuveau, France/Armstrong State) led Long Beach State to two important conference wins to collect her first career Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award.

Pacholski was at the center of the Beach’s back-to-back 4-1 victories over CSUN and UC Davis, which improved LBSU to 5-2 in Big West play.

Her 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 comeback win over Monika Van de Vondel clinched the result against CSUN.  She tied the score at 1-1 against UC Davis with her 6-3, 7-5 win over Kristy Jorgensen.  At No. 2 doubles, she and partner Sadaf Sadeghvaziri won 6-4 over an Aggie duo.

Others nominated: Molly Reed (Cal Poly); Sarah Nuno (Cal State Fullerton); Vivien Dvali (UC Irvine); Palina Dubavets (UC Santa Barbara)
