Juniors Nicolas Moreno de Alboran of UC Santa Barbara and Skyla Alcon of CSUN dominated the competition on their way to Big West Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
Moreno de Alboran Helps Gauchos To 2-0 League Start
UC Santa Barbara junior Nicolas Moreno de Alboran (New York, N.Y./Ibstock Place School) helped his team to a 2-0 conference start to capture Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades for the second time this season.
Entering Big West play against Hawai‘i and UC Irvine as the No. 79-ranked singles player in the nation, Moreno de Alboran upheld his ranking with two dominant performances from the No. 1 spot on the ladder.
He defeated UH’s Blaz Seric by a 6-2, 6-2 score, then earned a commanding 6-3, 6-3 victory over UCI’s Luis Lopez. The Gauchos did not give up a point in a pair of 7-0 victories.
In doubles play, Moreno de Alboran and Anders Holm collected a pair of 6-2 wins at No. 1. They upended Seric and Aleksa Lazarevic of UH, and took down UCI’s Mason Hansen and Luca Marquard. On the year, Moreno de Alboran is now 11-5 in dual singles matches and 10-5 in doubles.

Alcon Keeps CSUN On Winning Path
CSUN junior Skyla Alcon (Kapolei, Hawai‘i/Mid-Pacific Institute) joined the Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week ranks with a mostly dominating stretch of play in singles and doubles.
Alcon won all three of her singles contests and went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles to help the Matadors defeat Cal State Los Angeles (6-1), UC Riverside (7-0) and UC Irvine (5-2). CSUN has now won five straight matches.
Two of Alcon’s wins came against Big West opponents. She won in straight sets – 6-3, 6-2 – over UCR’s Chloe Pham at No. 3, and outlasted UCI’s Flora Amiri by scores of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Alcon and partner Monika Van de Vondel lost just a combined three points in their three doubles victories.
