ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!

1. No. 1 Long Beach State Captures Big West Regular Season Title with Sweep of UCSD On Senior Night

The No. 1 Long Beach State men’s volleyball won the Big West regular season title outright with a 3-0 [25-21, 25-18, 25-13] sweep of UC San Diego on Saturday night at the Walter Pyramid on Senior Night.  The win was historic in that the Beach became the first-ever Big West Men’s Volleyball regular season champions in the inaugural season of Big West Men’s Volleyball. It was also a record-setting victory for LBSU as the 2018 squad’s 23 straight victories set a new program record in the Long Beach State men’s volleyball annals.  Full Story

The Big West Conference sat down with Cal State Fullerton freshman pitcher, Taylor Dockins, as she talks softball, cancer and how she maintains such a positive outlook on life. Full Story

3. Long Beach State Assistant Coach Kristian Kuld Name To AVCA Thirty Under 30 List

Long Beach State Assistant Coach Kristian Kuld was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association “Thirty Under 30” list of coaches to watch for 2018. Kuld has been an assistant with the Beach for the last three seasons, and during that time has made two trips to Gulf Shores, and has finished in the nation’s Top 10 in each of the last three years.  Full Story

4. CSUN’s Greene’s Career-high 40 Kills 

A career night from senior Arvis Greene wasn’t quite enough as third-ranked UC Irvine held off ninth-ranked CSUN’s upset bid in five thrilling sets (25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 22-25, 22-20) in a key Big West Conference match Friday the Bren Events Center. Greene pounded a career-high 40 kills, the most by a hitter in a five-set match in the NCAA this season. Greene, who hit .384 on a career-high 73 attacks, came within a single kill of the CSUN rally scoring era record of 41 set by Dan Rhodes in 2006. Full Story

5. LBSU Extends Win Streak to 13 With 4-2 Victory Over UC Riverside

Lauren MacLeod’s three-run home run in the sixth inning proved to be the game-winner, as No. 18 Long Beach State held off UC Riverside in a 4-2 win, the 13th in a row for the Beach, a program record. Full Story
