Cannon, Eastman Earn Weekly Baseball Honors

4/2/2018

Connor Cannon homered in three consecutive games, while Colton Eastman threw the fifth no-hitter in Cal State Fullerton history.

CONNOR CANNON, UC RIVERSIDE – FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore • DH • Riverside, Calif. • Temecula Valley HS

➜ UC Riverside sophomore Connor Cannon earned his first career Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week honors after accounting for half his team’s offense over four games.

➜ As the designated hitter, Cannon batted .467 (7-for-15) with six runs scored and 10 RBIs.  The Highlanders scored 32 runs as a club en route to a 2-2 week.

➜ Cannon blasted a home run in three consecutive games for the first time in his career.  He hit a solo shot against Fresno State, and a pair of three-run fingers in games one and two against UC Davis.

➜ In a 16-10 win over the Aggies, Cannon finished 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, two runs scored and five RBIs.

➜ Cannon notched his fifth extra base hit of the week, another double, in the series finale against UC Davis.  He had a 1.200 slugging percentage over the four games.

➜ Cannon had at least one hit and one RBI in all four games.  He also walked three times on his way to a .556 on base percentage.

Others nominated: Ruben Cardenas (Cal State Fullerton); Jacob Hughey (Long Beach State); Ryan Anderson (UC Davis); Ryan Fitzpatrick (UC Irvine); Eric Yang (UC Santa Barbara); Adam Fogel (Hawai‘i)

COLTON EASTMAN, CAL STATE FULLERTON – PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Junior • RHP • Fresno, Calif. • Central HS

➜ Cal State Fullerton junior Colton Eastman tossed the fifth no-hitter in school history to garner his third career Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week award.

➜ The right-hander allowed just one walk and struck out seven as he went the full nine innings in a 3-0 win over UC Santa Barbara.

➜ Eastman’s no-no is the 17th in Division I baseball this year, which already breaks the all-time record for no-hitters in a single season set in 2013.  Coincidentally, Eastman wears No. 17.

➜ Eastman joined Longo Garcia (1987), Ted Silva (1995), Kirk Saarloos (2001) and Justin Garza (2014) in the Titan no-hitter club.  Eastman was the first among that five to throw the no-hitter on the road.

➜ He lowered his ERA to 2.47, which ranks No. 4 in the Big West.

Others nominated: Cassius Hamm (CSUN); Connor Loar (UC Davis); Jared Morton (UC Riverside); Stevie Ledesma (UC Santa Barbara); Neil Uskali (Hawai‘i)
