BIG WEST AT A GLANCE

RIVERSIDE REELS IN THE SHUTOUTS

The UC Riverside pitching staff has blanked a Big West-best seven opponents after holding Colgate runless in a 6-0 win, Sunday.  The next-best number of shutout wins is five as Long Beach State and Hawai‘i have each accomplished the feat. The rest of the league has held its opponent runless as follows: 4 times (UC Davis), 2 times (Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN), one time (UC Santa Barbara).

With Sunday’s win, UCR has mounted a four-game win streak, the second-best active win-streak in the conference.

LOTOSZYNSKI SETS UC DAVIS RECORD
Earlier this season, UC Davis senior infiender, Ashley Lotoszynski set a new record for career RBI in the Aggies’ DI-era.  The senior has knocked in 14 runs on the year, good for 11th-best in the Big West. Her career total stands at 84 RBI.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE

Long Beach State’s Nichole Fry has doubled a league-high 10 times in 90 at bats.  Her 10 doubles are 10th-best in the NCAA.  She also leads the league with three triples and 39 hits.  Her 39 kicks are fourth-most in the nation while her three homers are sixth-best in the Big West and 64 total bases are second-most in league.

UC Riverside’s Jenna Curtan also appears in the top-20 in hits with 36 on the season.  The senior leads the league with a .456 batting average.  Her .646 slugging percentage is fourth-best while her nine doubles are second-most in the Big West.

BEACH CONTINUES TO CRACK TOP-25
For the third-straight week, Long Beach State has appeared in the USA Today/NFCA national poll, earning as  high as a No. 21 rank.  The Beach come in at No. 22 this week as it welcomes Texas Tech and Mommoutn this weekn before competing in the Loyola Marymount Tournament this weekend. 

RANKED OPPONENTS ON DECK
The Big West will be tested this weekend with No. 18 Ohio State, No. 5 Oklahoma and No. 4 Tennessee on tap.  The Buckeyes and Sooners will make appearances at the Easton Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. to face Cal State Fullerton and CSUN while  No. 4 Tennessee travels to Hawai‘i for the Rainbow Wahine Classic.

CHALMERS DOMINATES ON MOUND
Senior righthander, Lindsey Chalmers, finished 3-0 last weekend with 15 strikeouts and a 1.31 ERA to help Cal Poly to an undefeated weekend at the ShareSLO Mustang Classic.  The senior matched her season-high versus North Dakota with eight strikeouts in a complete-game, two-hitter.  The senios also walked just one hitter and kept opponents to a .138 batting average in 16.0 innings in the circle.  Chalmers and the Mustangs have mounted a six-game win-streak, the best of anyone in the Big West, currently.  At 9-3, the senior ranks fourth in wins amongst league competition.
