Women's Hoops Places Two More In Postseason Tournaments
UC Davis and UC Irvine will see more basketball in 2018 as both clubs were selected for postseason play following successful seasons.
The Aggies (25-6) are the league's lone representative in the WNIT, having gained access by virtue of the league's automatic berth into the tournament. UCD will host Idaho in a first round matchup Thursday at a time to be determined with the winner playing the winner of New Mexico State and Wyoming in a second round game at a time, date and location to be determined.
UC Davis is making its second straight WNIT appearance and fourth overall, posting a 2-4 record. The Aggies made an impressive run to the third round a year ago, dropping Utah and Colorado State before falling to Washington State.
The Anteaters (18-13) will participate in the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI), becoming the first Big West women's team to participate in the nine-year old 16-team event. UCI's first round opponent is a familiar one in Nevada, a team the 'Eaters played last season in Reno. This time around UC Irvine and Nevada will again meet in Reno for a first around showdown on Thursday, with the winner playing CSU Bakersfield or Fresno State on March 18 or 19 at a time and location to be determined. This marks just the second postseason contest in program history for UC Irvine and first since the lone NCAA appearance back in 1995.
