3/12/2018

Daniel Cope led Cal State Fullerton at the plate in an upset of No. 2 Oregon State while Andre Pallante stymied Portland from the mound – as this week's baseball weekly award winners.

DANIEL COPE, CAL STATE FULLERTON – FIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore • C • San Diego, Calif. • Mt. Carmel HS

➜ Cal State Fullerton sophomore Daniel Cope helped his team defeat No. 2 Oregon State for the first time all season, as he collected Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week honors.

➜ The catcher blasted a home run and a double to help hand the Beavers a 5-3 defeat in the opening game of the series.  Cope opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo shot to left field to put the Titans up 1-0 – his third homer over the last four games.

➜ Cope finished that game 2-for-5 as Oregon State suffered its first blemish of the season after a 13-0 start.

➜ Cope’s effort also helped the Titans defeat their highest ranked opponent since taking down No. 1 Florida in 2012.

➜ In a tough 6-4 loss in game two of the series, Cope delivered his second two-hit game and scored a run.

➜ Cope walked three times in a 5-4 setback in the rubber game of the series.  He went 4-for-10 with two runs scored and an RBI for the series.

Others nominated: Brendan Brooks (UC Irvine)

➜ The right-hander tossed a career-high 8.0 scoreless innings of five-hit ball as the Anteaters blanked Portland by a 3-0 score.

➜ Pallante lowered his Big West leading ERA to 0.33.

➜ He scattered five hits, walked just one, and struck out eight.  His 35 strikeouts on the year lead the Big West.
