Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara representatives shared men's tennis weekly accolades while a newcomer to the Mustangs claimed the women's award.
Ortlip, Moreno de Alboran Lead Teams To 2-0 Weeks
Juniors Josh Ortlip (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge TC) of Cal Poly and Nicolas Moreno de Alboran (New York, N.Y./Ibstock Place School) defeated the same singles opponents and led their teams to wins over San Diego State and Fresno State to earn Big West Men’s Tennis Co-Athlete of the Week recognition.
Both players won at No. 1 singles in three sets against SDSU’s Santiago Cevallos – Ortlip taking a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 decision and Moreno de Alboran coming back to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Against Fresno State’s Xander Veys, both players won by identical scores of 6-4, 6-1.
Ortlip teamed with Axel Damiens to go 2-0 at No. 2 doubles, including a tight 7-6 (5) win over the Aztec duo of Cevallos and Arnuad Restifo. Moreno de Alboran and Anders Holm blanked the same pair, 6-0. UCSB also won at No. 1 doubles against the Bulldog tandem of Veys and Mantas Bugailiskis, 6-2. CP defeated Veys and Cagatay Soke by a 6-3 score.
Cal Poly defeated San Diego State (5-2) and Fresno State (4-2) to improve to 5-1 on the season. UCSB knocked off both foes by identical 6-1 scores to move to 3-1 on the campaign.

Williams Making Impact For Cal Poly
Cal Poly junior Caroline Williams (Baltimore, Md./Maryland) garnered Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors with a 4-0 record in singles and doubles in two home victories.
Williams helped the Mustangs defeat Nevada (4-3) and San Francisco (5-2). Playing at No. 4 singles, she downed the Wolf Pack’s Blaga Delic (6-2, 6-2) and Shanna Dos Santos of the Dons (6-2, 6-4).
At No. 3 doubles, Williams, a Maryland transfer, and Grace Olyphant won twice, including a 7-6 (5) triumph against Nevada’s Lili Fekete and Maria Tatarnikova.
