UC Irvine, Hawaii Standouts Recognized In Weekly Awards

➜ UC Irvine outside hitter Joel Schneidmiller earned his first career Big West Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week honor and Big West Men’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week accolades for the second week in a row after helping the Anteaters to a 3-0 record.

➜ The 6-6 pin hitter tied his career high with 12 kills against Concordia, then steadily improved that mark with 15 kills in the first match with BYU and 19 in the rematch against the Cougars.

➜ Schneidmiller averaged 3.54 kills and hit .456 (46-10-79) over 13 sets, as the No. 6 Anteaters defeated No. 5 BYU in four sets and then five sets.

➜ He tallied the 15 kills in match one against BYU on .565 hitting, committing just two errors in 23 swings.  He recorded a career-high seven block assists to contribute to UCI’s strong net presence.

➜ Schneidmiller didn’t drop off in the rematch, hitting at a .424 clip (19-5-33) with six digs, an ace and a block.  In the fifth set, he helped serve the ‘Eaters to a 3-0 lead and delivered back-to-back kills to give UCI a 10-6 edge.

➜ He averaged 0.85 blocks per set as UCI improved to 9-1.

➜ UC Irvine sophomore Scott Stadick notched Big West Men’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season, sharing the award with Hawai‘i junior and first-time recipient Joe Worsley.

➜ Stadick, a 7-foot-0 middle blocker, averaged 1.31 blocks for the week as the Anteaters toppled Concordia (3-1) and No. 5 BYU twice (3-1 and 3-2).  He also hit .360 with 24 kills and six errors in 50 swings.

➜ Stadick equalled his season high with seven total blocks in the first win over the Cougars, then had six in the rematch.  He also had four stuffs against Concordia.

➜ He tied his career high with 10 kills in the five-set victory over the Cougars, hitting .529 in the match.  Stadick averaged 1.85 kills for the week.

➜ Worsley, a 6-foot-0 setter, was instrumental in Hawaii’s 1-1 split against No. 2 UCLA.  He averaged 3.13 digs and 0.50 blocks per set over eight competitive sets versus the Bruins.

➜ He helped No. 3 UH to a four-set win on Friday with 36 assists, one ace, a career-high tying 14 digs and four blocks (one solo).  Worsley followed with 46 assists and 11 digs in the rematch for his second consecutive double-double.

➜ Worsley led the team in digs in both contests.
