Moneke Named Lou Henson National Player of the Week
Chima Moneke, who earned Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for his role in a 2-0 UC Davis week, received national recognition in the form of the Lou Henson National Player of the Week award as announced by CollegeInsider.com Monday.
The senior forward averaged 18.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks to help the Aggies knock off Northern Colorado (56-51) and Washington State (81-67) last week, as the Aggies improved to 5-2 on the season.
Moneke posted 19 points and 11 rebounds in the 14-point road rout of the Cougars, which gave UC Davis its first win over a Pac-12 program in 12 years. Earlier in the week, he notched 17 points and a season-high 16 boards against Northern Colorado. It was the 12th straight home win for the Aggies dating to last season.
The native of Canberra, Australia has five double-doubles on the season, which rank him tied for No. 8 nationally.
The Aggies are ranked in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll at No. 25. They also achieved the program's highest ever NCAA Ratings Percentage Index ranking, coming in at No. 22 through Monday's games.
Moneke is the second Big West performer to be named Lou Henson National Player of the Week, which recognizes the top mid-major player across the country. UC Santa Barbara's Max Heidegger won the award on Nov. 27.
