Senior Rachel Nagel (La Palma, Calif./Whitney HS) spurred UC Davis to three road victories – all by 26 points or more – to capture her first career Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award.
The 5-10 guard averaged 15.7 points on 58.6 percent shooting as the Aggies feasted on Pacific (90-58), Southern Utah (85-59) and Seattle (79-53) Thanksgiving week.
Nagel, who made 17 of her 29 field goal attempts, including 5 of 11 from three-point range, began the week with 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists in the 32-point win at Pacific.
She scored seven points to go along with 10 rebounds – four of those on the offensive end – and contributed two assists and three steals in the 26-point romp at Southern Utah.
Nagel gobbled up Seattle with a career high 23 points on a career-best 8-of-11 shooting. In the 26-point triumph, Nagel added four rebounds, a steal and a block while draining three treys. She also put the clamps on Kamira Sanders – the reigning WAC Player of the Week who was averaging 15.5 points per game – to an 0-for-12 shooting night from the field defensively.
Nagel ranks second on the team in scoring at 16.2 points per game.
Others nominated: Dynn Leaupepe (Cal Poly); Serafina Maulupe (CSUN); Shanaijah Davison (Long Beach State); Lauren Holt (UC Riverside); Akilah Jennings (UC Santa Barbara); Sarah Toeaina (Hawai‘i)
