Heidegger Named Progressive Legends Classic MVP


UC Santa Barbara sophomore Max Heidegger (Malibu, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) collected his first career Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor after earning Most Valuable Player recognition at the Progressive Legends Classic.

The 6-2 guard led the Gauchos to the Malibu Subregional Championship with averages of 25.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in wins over host Pepperdine (92-84) and Montana (80-73).

Heidegger then recorded 30 points in a 69-66 home win over Prairie View, hitting 9-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-8 from three-point territory.  It was his second 30-point game of the season and he became the first UCSB player to score 30 in two games during the same season 2013-14.

Heidegger had 24 points in the win over the Waves and 27 more against the Grizzlies in the Progressive Legends Classic.  He canned four threes against Pepperdine while adding two rebounds, four assists and three steals.  Against Montana, he made 13-of-16 foul shots while padding his line with three rebounds and three assists.
