Cal State Fullerton Raises Cup For Third Time In Four Years
Big West Men's Soccer Tournament Central
Cal State Fullerton used an MVP-worthy performance from goalkeeper Paul-Andre Guerin to send the match into penalty kicks, and the Titans outshot host UC Davis 4-3 in the ensuing shootout to claim its third Big West Men's Soccer Tournament title in the last four years on Saturday at the Aggie Soccer Field.
Guerin, who made six saves, several on point-blank attempts, gave up his spot in the PK shootout to teammate Alfredo Cortez. Cortez was up to the task, stopping the final two Aggie attempts, while the Titans made all four of theirs. Ironically, Guerin participated in the PK festivities, but as a shooter, and he buried the third attempt for CSF. Nicolo D'Amato, Christian Pinzon and Samuel Goni also had successful attempts for the Titans.
As tournament champion, the Titans earn the Big West's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. They will learn their first round opponent on Monday, Nov. 13 when the entire 48-team field is announced on NCAA.com at 10:00 a.m. (PT).
