Cal Poly, UC Davis Recognized On Women's Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll
Cal Poly teammates Taylor Nelson and Katherine Brouker joined UC Davis standout Mahalia White on the women’s volleyball weekly awards list.
Nelson Directs Cal Poly Offense To Pair Of Wins
Cal Poly senior Taylor Nelson (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS) directed the offense to .289 hitting in a pair of wins, claiming her second Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week award this season.
The 6-0 setter helped the Mustangs stay atop the Big West undefeated at 11-0 as they knocked off UC Irvine (3-0) and Hawai‘i (3-2) – two teams that entered the week with a combined league record of 15-2.
Nelson averaged 13.38 assists and 3.13 digs per set as Cal Poly extended its winning streak to 16 straight. The Mustangs also improved to 21-2 overall.
In a match that lasted nearly three hours – and in front of a Mott Athletics Center sellout crowd of 3,032 – Nelson totaled 63 assists and a season-high 16 digs in the five-set marathon win over UH. In so doing, Cal Poly swept the season series from the Rainbow Wahine for the first time since 1985 and beat UH at home for the first time.
Cal Poly hit .264 in the match while Nelson also contributed six kills and two block assists. In the sweep of the Anteaters, Nelson finished with 44 assists, nine digs, three kills and a block assist.

Brouker Posts Career-High Dig Total Against Hawai‘i
Cal Poly junior Katherine Brouker (San Diego, Calif./West Hills HS) earned her second career Big West Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week award after averaging 5.00 digs per set in two key victories.
The 5-9 libero helped the Mustangs take down fellow conference title contenders UC Irvine and Hawai‘i with her defensive abilities.
Brouker tallied a career-high 28 digs in a five-set win over Hawai‘i and added 12 more in a sweep of UCI. She added a pair of service aces against the Anteaters and had five assists over the two matches.

White Wins Another Frosh Award
UC Davis outside hitter Mahalia White (Canoga Park, Calif./Chatsworth Charter HS) posted her third Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week honor with solid performances in road wins over Long Beach State and CSUN.
White averaged 5.86 kills and led the Aggies with 41 total kills. She dropped a career-high 27 kills on the Beach and hit .447 (27-6-47) for the match.
She contributed 14 more kills against the Matadors on .280 hitting.
White became the first player in UC Davis history to post at least 15 kills in eight straight matches, a streak that ended by just one kill in Saturday’s match at CSUN.
She hit .389 (41-13-72) for the week while adding two assists, six digs and a block.
