UC Riverside at 3-0 for the first time since their NCAA Tournament team in 2005.

BIG WEST AT A GLANCE

RIVERSIDE DEFENDS UNDEFEATED RECORD

For just the second time in program history, UC Riverside won its first three conference matches.  The last time the Highlanders accomplished the feat was in 2005 when the squad went 4-0 before tying three straight contests to finish its Big West campaign 4-0-3. The 2005 team also earned Riverside’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.

RIVERSIDE THE ROAD WARRIORS
After last weekend’s 4-1 win at UC Santa Barbara and 1-0 shutout win at Cal Poly, UCR has won three-straight matches on the road (including CSU Bakersfield earlier in the season). The 2017 campaign marks the first time the Highlanders have taken three consecutive matches on the road since 2006. The Highlanders have only ever accomplished the feat twice in program history.

Speaking of streaks, Riverside keeps it rolling with four-straight wins, making it the longest win-streak since 2006 when UCR won five-consecutive games. The program record for back-to-back victories is nine-straight from August 27-September 27, 2004.

IRVINE SITS ATOP STANDINGS UNBEATEN

Alexis Smith and UC Davis visit Kiana Palacios and UCI Thursday for a televised showdown! At 3-0-1 the Anteaters have earned 10 points to sit atop the Big West standings unbeaten. The ’Eaters look to ontinue its unbeaten streak as ESPN carries its upcoming match versus UC Davis. UCI will host UCD and UC Riverside, Sunday. Should UCI and UCR come out Thursday with Ws, the only two remaining unbeaten teams in league will square off at Anteater Stadium.  Irvine looks to pick up as many as six points after its outings.

DAVIS DAZZLES, MAKES HISTORY
UC Davis made history with its perect start to open conference play at 2-0; the Aggies have never opened Big West play with back-to-back victories since joining the league in 2008. UCD has previous posted unbeated starts in 2014 (1-0-2), 2015 (1-0-1) and 2016 (1-0-1) but the program had yet to post two consecutive Ws.  The dual victories also marked the first time this season the Ags recorded back-to-back wins and the first time they won three stright since 2015 (Sept. 20-Oct. 1).

In other Aggie news, UC Davis senior goalkeeper Alexis Smith notched her 17th career shutout as the Aggies defeated Hawai‘i 1-0 in its first head-to-head conference showdown. The senior needs five more clean sheets to break into the Big West top 10 the category. The record, set by Liz Ramos from 2005-08 stands at 34.

CSUN HOME TO TOURNAMENT IN 2017
CSUN will host the 2017 Big West Women’s Soccer Tournament from November 2-5 at Matador Soccer Field.  Consistent with previous years, the four teams with the best marks in league at the close of the regular season will earn berths to the conference tournament.
