BIG WEST AT A GLANCE

CONFERENCE PLAY COMMENCES

It’s officially that time of year again... Big West conference action kicks off with Hawai‘i and UC Davis squaring off on Thursday on the mainland. All nine programs will begin the #BigWestQuest this weekend as the conference totals seven matches by the close of the week. Regular season defending champion, CSUN heads to Fullerton to face the Titans who have clinched the Big West Tournament title in three of the last four years.  The Matadors previously faced conference foe, and defending Big West Tournament title champion, Long Beach State, in the season opener and played to a 1-1 double overtime draw.  This is the only match that featured two Big West opponents so far in 2017.

DEMIAN BROWN APPROACHES MILESTONE
Cal State Fullerton coach Demian Brown is just a single win from 100 career victories. In his 11th year at the helm, Brown has amassed a 99-87-28 overall record and looks to add to that win column this week as the Titans host the Matadors. Brown has helped lead CSF to three Big West Tournament titles in the last four years.

BIG WEST MEASURES UP
The Big West finished out the non-conference portion of the schedule at .500 going 40-40-16.  The league comes in ranked 11th-best in the nation out of 32 conferences.

UC IRVINE HAS SIGHTS SET ON TOURNEY
After falling to Long Beach State in the 2016 Big West Tournament, UCI has its sights set on the title. The Anteaters will travel to Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara on a central coast roadtrip as it looks to grab its first set of points in league.

KEEPING UP WITH AMANDA BALL
Ball looks to be on track to break into the Big West record book for goals scored in a single season. The senior would need seven more to crack the top 10; the record belongs to fellow Gaucho Krystal Sandza who set the mark in 2002 with 25 scores on the year. Most recently, Cal State Fullerton’s Rebecca Wilson recorded 19 goals during the 2015 campaign for 4th-best all-time.

Three more game-winning goals this season, and Ball would write her name in the category among the all-time figures for game-winners in a single season. The record, set by Rebecca Wilson, is 10 GWG.

CSUN HOME TO TOURNAMENT IN 2017
CSUN will host the 2017 Big West Women’s Soccer Tournament from November 2-5 at Matador Soccer Field.  Consistent with previous years, the four teams with the best marks in league at the close of the regular season will earn berths to the conference tournament.
