Four Teams Take Unbeaten Mark Into Second Week of Play
Women's Soccer Weekly Release No. 2
BIG WEST AT A GLANCE
THE UNDEFEATED FOUR
Four Big West squads went undefeated through the first weekend of play including: Cal State Fullerton (2-0), UC Santa Barbara (2-0), Hawai‘i (2-0) and CSUN (0-0-2).
UCSB COMES OUT HOT
UC Santa Barbara jumped out to a perfect 2-0 mark after the first week of competition with back-to-back shutout victories. It’s déjà vu for the Gauchos after UCSB opened the 2016 campaign with a perfect 8-0 mark to begin last season; five of those wins were also shutout victories.
BALL BRINGS THE HEAT
Senior Amanda Ball wasted no time establishing herself as a power for the Gauchos and in the league - the forward put away three goals over the course of the first weekend and paces the Big West in goals (3), points (6) and shots (10). Ball is a preseason All-Conference honoree and received All-Big West honors last season.
GAUCHOS TAKE ON BRUINS
No. 14 UCLA will test the Gauchos this week as UCSB faces its first top-25 program of the 2017 season.
CAL STATE FULLERTON GOES UNBEATEN
Cal State Fullerton recorded wins at home and on the road to open the 2017 campaign and looks to make a push for its fourth Big West Tournament title in five years.
FAMILIAR FEELING FOR RAINBOW WAHINE
Hawai‘i made history last season with its best-ever start at 7-1-1 and it looks like they could best that mark after opening the year perfect at 2-0. The Rainbow Wahine remain on the island as they host the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic. The ‘Bows boasted a 7-1-2 home record in 2016, just dropping a single contest to Cal State Fullerton.
We caught up with UH last season when the Rainbow Wahine made history, check out the full story here:

LONG BEACH STATE RECEIVES VOTES
Defending Big West Tournament Champion, Long Beach State, continues to receive votes in the national polls (Top Drawer Soccer). The Beach went 0-1-1 to open the year after tying defending regular season champ, CSUN, and dropping a Sunday contest to No. 9 UCLA in a 5-1 finish. The Beach will split time between George Allen Field and the road this weekend as it hosts Northwestern before traveling to San Diego State.
CSUN HOME TO TOURNAMENT IN 2017
CSUN will host the 2017 Big West Women’s Soccer Tournament from November 2-5 at Matador Soccer Field. Consistent with previous years, the four teams with the best marks in league at the close of the regular season will earn berths to the conference tournament.
