2017 Big West Spring All-Academic Team

A record total of 422 student-athletes were named to the Spring Academic All-Big West Team for the sports of baseball, softball, beach volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s track and field, and women’s water polo.  To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes are required to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, complete one full year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.

Cal Poly topped all Big West institutions with 59 all-academic representatives.  Hawai‘i totaled 52 honorees and CSUN 51.  UC Davis had the fourth-most recipients with 49, followed closely by UC Santa Barbara (48) and Long Beach State (46).  UC Riverside (40), Cal State Fullerton (36) and UC Irvine also had solid representation.  Sacramento State and CSU Bakersfield, associate members in beach volleyball, collected seven honorees between them.

Women’s track and field sported the largest contingent of all-academic honorees with 113.  Men’s track and field had 73 representatives.  Forty-five student-athletes were honored in baseball, 42 in softball and 41 in women’s water polo.  The remainder of the list included women’s tennis (27), beach volleyball (24), women’s golf (20), men’s tennis (19) and men’s golf (18).

The 422 representatives surpasses the previous record of 398 set in 2016.
