The Big West added five more All-Americans to the honor roll during Thursday’s action in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  In addition, UC Davis senior Rianna Goins advanced to the national final in the 800 meters.

CSUN produced five second-team All-Americans as a result of placing among the top-16 in their respective events.

Senior Monique Griffiths finished 11th overall in the women’s hammer with a top distance of 207-06 (63.24m).  Griffiths, the Big West meet and overall record holder in the event with a mark of 215-11 achieved at the conference championship on May 12, had her best throw on the second try.  It is the second career All-American honor for Griffiths, who finished 23rd in 2015 for honorable mention recognition.

The Matador quartet of Courtney Robinson, Asheley Bamberg, Lexis Lambert and Marie Veale posted a time of 44.44 seconds in the 4x100 relay, finishing 10th overall and earning second-team All-America accolades.  The foursome placed fifth in their heat.  The top two teams in each of three heats plus the next two fastest times qualified for the finals.  CSUN missed the final qualifying time by .17 seconds.

Goins is assured of becoming the third first-team All-American from UC Davis in the last five years.  The top eight finishers in any event achieve that honor.  Goins finished second in her semifinal heat of the women’s 800-meter run with a time of two minutes, 6.76 seconds, slipping past Iowa State’s Jasmine Staebler (2:06.81) as the second automatic qualifier.  Oregon’s Raevyn Rogers won that heat in 2:05.63.  Goins placed 17th overall in the 24-member semifinal field.  She becomes the second Aggie woman to reach the 800 final, joining Lauren Wallace, who garnered an eighth place finish in 2013.

Three other Big West athletes captured honorable mention All-American kudos by virtue of finishing between 17th and 24th in their events.

UC Santa Barbara junior Jenna Hinkle came in 19th place in the women’s 1500 meters, running her race in four minutes, 21.11 seconds.

Lambert added to her personal haul with a second All-American accolade as the Matador finished 19th in the 400 meters.  She clocked 53.91 seconds.

UC Riverside junior Tayler Fleming had a top mark of 18-06 (5.64m) in the women’s long jump to place 24th overall.

A trio of Big West athletes will be in action Friday at the University of Oregon’s historic Hayward Field, with a live stream available on ESPN3.  Vincent Calhoun of Long Beach State will compete in the men’s high jump.  LBSU’s Riley Cooks and UC Santa Barbara’s Tori Usgaard will participate in the heptathlon.  The schedule is as follows:
