Hyland Named Second Team All-America
Cal Poly senior Sierra Hyland added to her postseason haul Wednesday as she was named second team All-America by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Hyland earned distinction as a utility/pitcher, the lone player from the Big West to earn national honors from the NFCA. She was previously named first team All-West Region as well as first team All-Big West and the Big West Pitcher of the Year.
This season the righty went 24-14 with a 1.10 ERA with 275 strikeouts in 262.0 innings. She also compiled 29 complete games and 12 shutouts while allowing just nine homers all year. Hyland was a strong presence at the plate with a .352 batting average, two homers, 41 RBI, 64 hits, 10 doubles and four triples.
In addition to her fine season, Hyland left her mark all over the Big West career pitching lists. She ranks first in strikeouts (965), tied for first in appearances (161), third in innings pitched (942.2) and tied for sixth in wins (82). She is also the first four-time All-Region honoree in program history and a three-time first team All-Big West choice.
