BACK-TO-BACK TITLES FOR ’BOWS
After sweeping Big West opposition at the conference tournament last week in Pismo Beach, Hawai‘i earned its second-consecutive Big West Tournament title. The ’Bows defeated Cal Poly 4-1 Friday to open competition then went on to take a 3-2 win over No. 5 Long Beach State in the winner’s bracket meeting before a 4-1 victory over the 49ers to claim the crown.
For the first time in league history, two Big West representatives earned at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament in the eight-squad competition. Hawai‘i will open NCAA action with #4 Florida State as the #5 seed while Long Beach State takes on #3 Pepperdine as a #6 seed.
RAINBOW WAHINE VS FLORIDA STATE
The ’Bows faced the Seminoles in March and suffered a close 2-3 loss. UH looks to revenge the disappointment as they take on FSU on Friday.
BEACH OR WAVES
Long Beach State has seen the Waves twice this season and has fallen in a narrow 2-3 margin in both meetings. The Beach looks to bounce back from the Big West Tournament loss in the title game to avenge the losses to Pepperdine. The two face off Friday.
