Top-seeded UC Santa Barbara and No. 3 seed Cal Poly will meet in the championship match of the Big West Men's Tennis Tournament for the second straight year.

UC Santa Barbara Topples UC Irvine, 4-0

No. 1 seed UC Santa Barbara took care of No. 4 seed UC Irvine with a 4-0 victory in the semifinals of the Big West Men's Tennis Tournament on Friday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The Gauchos improved to 18-5 while the Anteaters ended their year at 9-15.

UCSB battled for the doubles point against a valiant Anteater squad.  The No. 3 match was tied 6-6 when the point was clinched.  However, the Gauchos won a close battle at No. 2, 6-4, and notched a 7-5 victory at No. 1 to secure the point.

In singles, the Gauchos had a much easier time, rolling to three straight wins.  Anders Holm won 6-2, 6-2 over Mason Hansen at No. 4.  Cody Rakela was a 6-1, 6-2 victor over Bruce Man-Son-Hing at No. 5.  To clinch the match, Simon Freund was nearly perfect as he grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Luis Lopez at No. 3.

Cal Poly Wins Thriller Over UC Davis

No. 3 Cal Poly won a 4-2 thriller over No. 2 UC Davis in the semifinals of the Big West Men's Tennis Tournament on Friday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The Mustangs earned the doubles point to go up 1-0.

Cal Poly then took a 3-0 lead with wins at No. 3 by Garrett Auproux and No. 1 by Ben Donovan.

The Aggies managed to come back with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win by James Wade at No. 2.  Everett Maltby brought the Aggies to within 3-2 with his 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4 victory over Joshua Ortlip.

But the Mustangs held on as Antoine Noel won at No. 6, taking a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 decision over Max Pham.

Cal Poly is in the championship match for the second straight year and the third time in four seasons.
