ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!


1. Cal Poly Captures Third Title of Season; Bergland And Gillaspy Finish 1-2

Sophie Bergland carded another 70 to earn medalist honors for the first time in her collegiate career and lead the Cal Poly women’s golf team to a first-place finish in the Bobcat Desert Invitational hosted by Montana State on Tuesday at the Golf Club of Estrella.  Bergland, a junior from Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., finished with a four-under-par 212 total, a personal best for 54 holes by eight shots and a new school record. Taylor Yoshitake posted a 213 total at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate in October 2013 at Palm Desert, Calif.  Full Story


2. Hyland One Of 25 Finalists For USA Softball Collegiate Player Of The Year

Ranked seventh among NCAA Division I pitchers with 200 strikeouts and eighth with a 0.83 ERA, righthander Sierra Hyland became just the second Mustang in program history to be shortlisted for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award as the senior was named as one of 25 finalists.  Full Story


3. UC Davis’ Corfee Wins El Macero Classic

UC Davis senior Ben Corfee fired a 2-under-par 70 in the final round toward a 54-hole total of 215 strokes to capture individual medalist honors at the El Macero Classic men’s collegiate golf tournament at El Macero Country Club Friday afternoon. The Aggies finished fourth as a team with a 10-over 899 total, five strokes behind team champion Seattle.  Full Story


4. UC Riverside Men’s Tennis Sets New DI Win Mark

The UC Riverside Men’s Tennis Team knocked off Hope International Wednesday morning, 6-1, to set a new Division I program record of with their 14th win of the season.  Full Story




5. Hawai‘i's Governor Ige, Senate & House Proclaim April 13, “Dave Shoji Day”
In recognition of his years of dedication and devotion to the State of Hawai'i and the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball program, Governor David Ige, the Senate and House all honored and celebrated "Dave Shoji Day" at the State Capitol on Thursday, April 13.  The festivities began in Governor's office, where the long-time Rainbow Wahine coach and his wife Mary were honored by Ige who officially proclaimed April 13 "Dave Shoji Day" for the State of Hawai'i.  Full Story
