Top Four Seeds Advance To Semis

2017 Big West Men's Basketball Tournament Central


The top four seeds took care of business in quarterfinal action of the Big West Conference Men's Basketball Tournament held at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., to advance to Friday's semifinals.  Top-seeded UC Irvine faces No. 4 Long Beach State at 6:00 pm to kick off Friday's semifinal action and is followed by No. 2 UC Davis versus No. 3 Cal State Fullerton for the night cap.



UC Davis Downs Cal Poly, 66-55, In Quarterfinal Action

Tied at 34-34 with 13:24 remaining in Thursday's quarterfinal matchup at the Big West Tournament, UC Davis scored eight of the following 10 points throughout the next 2:30 to take the lead for good. As the half progressed, that six-point advantage grew to a game-high 11, and the Aggies advanced to Friday's semifinal round by defeating Cal Poly, 66-55.

Cal State Fullerton Takes Down CSUN

Cal State Fullerton advanced to the Big West Tournament semifinals as three players reached the 20-point threshold in an 81-68 victory over CSUN at Honda Center on Thursday in quarterfinal action.  The win marked fourth-year head coach Dedrique Taylor's first Big West Tournament victory while also snapping a six-game losing streak at the conference tourney that dated back to 2010. Fullerton last advanced to the Big West Tournament semifinals in 2008, when the Titans went on to win the tournament championship.

Top-Seeded UC Irvine Continues Run To Tournament Title

Regular season champion UC Irvine moved one step closer to capturing the Big West Conference Tournament title after downing UC Riverisde, 76-67, in a quarterfinal matchup.  Jaron Marton and Ioannis Dimakopoulo led the way with 19 points each, while Jonathan Galloway pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds.

Long Beach State Pulls Past Hawai'i With Late-Game Rally

Justin Bibbins scored a career high 27 points with six assists in an effort that will go down with some of Long Beach State’s best Big West Tournament performances, leading Long Beach State to a win over Hawai’i 73-62.  Hawai’i (14-16) had knocked out the Beach in the previous two tournaments, including in the championship game last season, but Bibbins carried the load for Long Beach State (15-18) Thursday night, scoring 19 points in the first half and shooting a perfect 9-for-9 from the stripe to help lock down the victory.
