Big West Women's Volleyball Release - Week 7

BIG WEST TID BITS

Perfect Play:
Two weeks of Big West play in the books and two teams are knotted atop the standings with a perfect 4-0 record.  Defending conference champion No. 12 Hawai’i knocked off Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside to extend its conference win streak to 25 matches.  The 49ers of Long Beach State swept the central coast (Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara), to keep their perfect conference record in 2016 intact.  The two teams square off this Saturday at The Pyramid on FOX Prime Ticket with first serve slated for 8:00 p.m. For both teams to enter Saturday’s matchup unscathed, the Rainbow Wahine must slip passed CSUN (6-10; 2-2), which airs Thursday on ESPN3, and the 49ers need to pickup a road win at UC Riverside (5-9; 0-2).

Up Next:
The central coast hosts UC Irvine and UC Davis on Thursday with the Mustangs battling the Anteaters and  the Gauchos facing the Aggies.  On Saturday, The Aggies head to Titan Gym to take on Cal State Fullerton at 3:00 p.m. live on ESPN3.  Other action that day is UC Riverside hosting UC Irvine and the central coast teams squaring off, with both matches starting at 7:00 p.m.

Home Opener:
Following a stretch of 14 road contests to opening the 2016 season, UC Riverside is finally playing its first home contest of the season this Thursday when the Highlanders entertain Long Beach State. The matchup versus Long Beach State kicks off a four-game homestand for the Highlanders.

Think Pink:
Big West student-athletes aren’t only passionate when it comes to performing on the field or in the classroom, but also when it comes to the community.  The Big West Conference takes action throughout the year to support Breast Cancer Awareness and will host a slew of Think Pink games this fall. Can You Dig It:
UC Riverside libero Maddie Hubbell has tallied 1,486 scoops during her tenure as a Highlander.  The senior needs just 71 more digs this season to surpass Sheryl Benson (1984, 86, 88-89) for the top spot in UCR’s record book.
