Big West Announces 13 Fall Events Will Be Streamed on ESPN3

2016 ESPN3 Fall Schedule

The Big West Conference today announced that 13 events will appear on its fall ESPN3 schedule, beginning with a Sept. 30 women’s volleyball clash between Cal Poly and Long Beach State.
Eleven women’s volleyball and two women’s soccer contests comprise the slate in the fourth year of a collaboration between the Big West and ESPN, producing 60-plus ESPN3 events annually.
All nine member schools will be showcased at least once in the package.
Long Beach State hosts on back-to-back nights to commence ESPN3 coverage.  The Beach also welcomes UC Santa Barbara to the Walter Pyramid on Saturday, Oct. 1.  LBSU is slated for one additional appearance, an Oct. 29 home matchup against UC Davis.
Defending Big West champion Hawai‘i is earmarked for two ESPN3 road appearances.  Owners of a perfect 16-0 conference record and NCAA Tournament Elite Eight appearance last season, the Rainbow Wahine visit CSUN on Oct. 6 and UC Irvine on Nov. 10.  Hawai‘i is currently ranked No. 14 nationally in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
UCI hosts three straight contests in the package, culminating with the Nov. 10 tilt versus UH.  The Anteaters also welcome Cal Poly (Nov. 3) and UCSB (Nov. 5) to the Bren Center.  UCSB began the season 8-2, its best start since 2009.  The Gauchos also travel to UC Riverside (Oct. 14) for one of their three road appearances.
UC Davis, in addition to its matchup with LBSU, journeys to Cal State Fullerton (Oct. 8) and CSUN (Oct. 28).
The first women’s soccer duel involves rivals Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton squaring off at Titan Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 9.  It pits the participants of the last two Big West Tournament championship games, both won by the Titans.  Coincidentally, LBSU is the host of the 2016 conference tournament.
A second contest takes place on Sunday, October 23 with upstart UC Santa Barbara invading UC Irvine’s Anteater Stadium.  The Gauchos started the season 7-0 for the first time since 1990.  The Anteaters were right there with them with a 7-1 start, the program’s best since 1998.
ESPN3 is ESPN’s live multi-screen sports network, a destination that delivers thousands of exclusive sports events annually.  It is accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets and connected devices through WatchESPN.  The network is currently available nationwide at no additional cost who receive their high-speed Internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated service provider.  It is also available at no cost to U.S. college students and U.S.-based military personnel via computers, smartphones and tablets connected to on-campus educational and on-base military broadband and Wi-Fi networks.
“It’s a great start to an extensive ESPN3 schedule that brings the best of what Big West sports have to offer to a national audience,” said Big West Conference Commissioner Dennis Farrell.  “This is terrific exposure for our schools, student-athletes and conference as a whole using typical ESPN production standards.”
