The Central Coast had a successful first round at the 2016 Big West Women's Basketball Tournament as No. 5 UC Santa Barbara and No. 6 Cal Poly advanced to the quarterfinal round. First and quarterfinal round action is taking place at the Bren Events Center on the campus of UC Irvine.
Big Fourth Quarter Lifts UC Santa Barbara Over UC Irvine, 62-43
With just a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, UCSB (12-19, 9-8) hit its stride when it counted most and blew out UC Irvine (4-27, 1-16) 62-43 in the first round of the Big West Tournament. It was the Gauchos' first win in the conference tournament since 2013.
Cal Poly Advances to Big West Tournament Quarterfinals With 72-51 Win
The Cal Poly women's basketball team didn't turn the ball over once in the first half Tuesday night, and went on to break the single-game school record for fewest turnovers committed (four) while advancing to the quarterfinals of the Big West Conference Tournament with a 72-51 win over CSUN at Bren Events Center.
