Thanks to a 3-0 start, including a victory over the then-No. 4 ranked doubles duo in the country, the UC Santa Barbara tandem of Palina Dubavets and Stefani Stojic moved up from No. 21 to No. 10 in the latest Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Women’s Doubles rankings.  It is believed that this is the first time a Big West duo has reached the nation’s top-10 since 1995 when Kelly Spencer and Amelia White finished the year ranked No. 9 in the Rolex National Collegiate rankings.

Dubavets and Stojic, who entered the season ranked No. 21, made a huge statement in the season opener by downing USC’s pairing of Giuliana Olmos and Gabby Smith at the No. 1 spot, 6-4.  The Gauchos went on to win the doubles point and nearly sprouted an upset of the then second-ranked Trojans, ultimately losing a 4-3 heartbreaker.

Dubavets and Stojic look to continue their sensational start to 2016 as UCSB faces a busy stretch this weekend with home matches against Memphis and Washington State, and the Big West opener versus UC Davis.  The Gauchos then embark on a six-match roadtrip.

Long Beach State Extends Conference Win Streak
The Long Beach State women won their 21st straight regular season match against a Big West opponent after defeating CSUN on the road last week.  The Beach returns to action this week at home against Loyola Marymount, and hosts UC Irvine in its next Big West tilt on Feb. 26.  LBSU is ranked No. 40 nationally.

Cal State Fullerton Off To Best Start In Over 20 Years

Early wins over San Diego State and Loyola Marymount have pushed Cal State Fullerton to a 4-1 record, the program’s best start since 1995.  No. 1 singles player Alexis Valenzuela is undefeated at 5-0 atop the Titan lineup.  The Titans are idle this week, returning to action on Feb. 19 with a road contest against Pacific.

Gaucho Men Post Impressive Victory

Playing its sixth consecutive ranked opponent to start the 2016 season, the UC Santa Barbara men evened their record at 3-3 with a 4-2 win over then-No. 43 Pepperdine on Sunday.  It marked the first time the Gauchos beat the Waves since the 1997 NCAA Tournament.  UCSB also has recorded wins over No. 63 Washington and No. 37 Louisville.

UC Davis Men Start Off Strong
UC Davis just finished a stretch of 11 matches in 18 days, including five contests against nationally ranked competition, and team is 8-3 with a Oracle/ITA national ranking of No. 57.  The Aggies toppled Hawai‘i in the first Big West match of the spring season last week.  Aggie No. 1 singles player Alec Adamson is ranked No. 81 nationally in singles.
