HAWAI‘I OPENS SEASON WITH BIG WIN
Hawai‘i upset No. 4 California in its first showdown of the new season, defeating the Bears 11-10 at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invite. The last time a Big West squad defeated a team with a No. 4 ranking or higher was on Jan. 26, 2014 when UC Irvine defeated No. 4 Arizona State in a 9-6 finish.
BIG WEST VERSUS THE BEST
The Rainbow Wahine went on to record a 5-1 record over the weekend, falling only to No. 2 UCLA, 13-8. The ’Bows already have three wins over ranked teams early in the season. The only other team in the Big West to accomplish the same feat is UC Santa Barbara who has taken down No. 24 Cal Baptist, No. 21 UC San Diego and No. 20 Wagner.

After its hot start right out of the gates, Hawai‘i received a No. 4 ranking in the CWPA’s second poll, its highest ranking since being a part of the Big West Conference. UC DAVIS MAKES SPLASH IN 2016
UC Davis opened its 2016 season at the LouStrong Memorial tournament at San Jose State. The Aggies faced two ranked opponents and recorded a 3-1 mark in its first outing of the young season. Davis amassed a 24-goal total versus Cal State Monterey Bay on the first day of competition to tie its all-time score mark in a single match. Senior Allyson Hansen tallied five scores while sophomore Sammy Preston celebrated her first hat trick as an Aggie. UC Irvine ended its 2015 season ranked No. 5 in the CWPA national rankings, the highest mark in which the ’Eaters have ever received at the close of a campaign. Irvine also received a No. 5 ranking in the 2016 Preseason Poll, the highest the program has ever earned to open competition.
