UC DAVIS MAKES SPLASH IN 2016
UC Davis opened its 2016 season last weekend at the LouStrong Memorial tournament at San Jose State.  The Aggies faced two ranked opponents and recorded a 3-1 mark in its first outing of the young season.  Davis amassed a 24-goal total versus Cal State Monterey Bay on the first day of competition to tie its all-time score mark in a single match.  Senior Allyson Hansen tallied five scores while sophomore Sammy Preston celebrated her first hat trick as an Aggie.  The last time a UCD squad netted 24 goals in a single contest was on April 10, 1999.

BACK IN THE SADDLE
While UC Davis opened its 2016 campaign a week ahead of the rest of the pack, CSUN, Long Beach State, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and Hawai‘i will play their first minutes of the new year this Friday.   UC Davis will take a two-week hiatus before returning to competition after a two week layoff.

UCI PULLS RANK
UC Irvine ended its 2015 season ranked No. 5 in the CWPA national rankings, the highest mark in which the ’Eaters have ever received at the close of a campaign.  Irvine also received a No. 5 ranking in the 2016 Preseason Poll, the highest the program has ever earned to open competition.

BACK, BACK AGAIN
The Big West returns four all-conference student-athletes in Chloe Barr (UH), Paula Chillida (4), McKenna Mitchell (UCI) and Claire Nixon (UH).

BROKAW RETURNS FOR UCSB
After a season in which UC Santa Barbara junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Brokaw earned a No. 1 spot in the Big West record book with a 5.04 goals against average, the senior will return to the pool for the Gauchos in 2016.

2015 NCAA RECAP
For the first time in Big West Women’s Water Polo history, two teams represented the conference at the NCAA Tournament.  Hawai’i earned the league’s automatic berth and UC Irvine earned an at-large bid as the NCAA Selection Committee announced the 10-team field.  This marked Irvine’s fourth trip to the tourney and UH’s second as a member of the Big West.  The Anteaters brought home fifth place in the Tournament while the Rainbow Wahine finished in seventh place.
