2015 NCAA RECAP
For the first time in Big West Women’s Water Polo history, two teams represented the conference at the NCAA Tournament hosted by Stanford University from May 8-10 in Stanford, Calif.  Hawai’i earned the league’s automatic berth and UC Irvine earned an at-large bid as the NCAA Selection Committee announced the 10-team field.  This marked Irvine’s fourth trip to the tourney and UH’s second as a member of the Big West.  The Anteaters brought home fifth place in the Tournament after defeating Princeton 6-5 while the Rainbow Wahine finished in seventh place after taking down UC San Diego 13-8 on the final day of competition.

UC DAVIS KICKS OFF 2016 SEASONalt
UC Davis opens the 2016 season this weekend at the LouStrong Memorial tournament at San Jose State.  The Aggies return a season squad with seven seniors, five juniost and two sophomore who played in 32 games a year ago.  Davis will face Stanford, who pulled in a No. 1 ranking after claiming the national championship last spring , in the first weekend of play in addition to Cal State Monterey Bay.  The Aggies also received a No. 9 ranking in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Preseason Poll.  The Aggies are the only Big West team to begin its season this weekend.

TIME FOR ACTION
While UC Davis opens the season for the Big West this weekend, CSUN, Long Beach State, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and Hawai‘i will play their first minutes of the new year the following weekend.   UC Davis will then take a two-week layoff from competition after its season-opening tourney.

BACK, BACK AGAIN
The Big West returns four all-conference student-athletes in Chloe Barr (UH), Paula Chillida (4), McKenna Mitchell (UCI) and Claire Nixon (UH).

BROKAW RETURNS FOR UCSB

After a season in which UC Santa Barbara junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Brokaw earned a No. 1 spot in the Big West record book with a 5.04 goals against average, the senior will return to the pool for the Gauchos as UCSB kicks off its 2016 season on January, 22.
