UC Riverside senior Brittany Crain (Moreno Valley, Calif./John W. North HS) collected Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors on the strength of a season-high 29 points that fueled a 20-point non-conference victory over CSU Bakersfield.

Crain made 11 of 15 shots from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, and added seven rebounds, two assists and three steals to her line as the Highlanders won 81-61.

It was the sixth career award for the 5-8 guard, who is now tied for eighth in Big West history for most Player of the Week citations.

Crain is the Big West’s leading scorer at 18.4 points per game and she has recorded double figure points in all nine contests this season.  She also ranks first league-wide in made threes (25th nationally), third in three-point field goal percentage and seventh in steals.

Crain has been especially dominant over the last four games, averaging 24.5 points and knocking down 54.8 percent (17-of-31) of her three-point attempts.

Others nominated: Beth Balbierz (Cal Poly); Jade Vega (Cal State Fullerton); Claudia Ramos (CSUN); Morgan Bertsch (UC Davis); Shereen Sutherland (UC Irvine)
