Hawai‘i senior Roderick Bobbitt (Oakland, Calif./Indian Hills CC) delivered two all-around solid performances in the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic that led to his selection as Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The 6-3 guard averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 9.0 assists and 4.5 steals in a pair of Rainbow Warrior victories over Montana State (87-76) and Coastal Carolina (74-63), helping first-year UH head coach Eran Ganot to a 2-0 start.
Bobbitt posted a double-double in the season opener with 10 points and 14 assists against the Bobcats. The 14 helpers broke the tournament record of 13. In addition, he had five rebounds, five steals and a block to give UH versatile contributions.
In the win over the Chanticleers, Bobbitt scored 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting and knocked down four three-pointers. He came up three points short of his career high, but again delivered in a variety of ways with five more boards, four assists and four steals.
For the week, Bobbitt shot 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from the field and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from distance as Hawai‘i advanced to the championship game of the Rainbow Classic.
