Cal Poly Defeats UC Riverside In Women's First Round

Cal Poly - UC Riverside WT Box Score

No. 8 Cal Poly notched a 4-0 first round victory over No. 9 UC Riverside to kick off the 2015 Big West Women’s Tennis Championship at Indian Wells Tennis Garden Thursday.

The Mustangs claimed the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.  Zoe Oedekerk and Molly Reed defeated Kassie Truong and Caroline Hall, 8-0, at No. 3 before Louise Oxnevad and Danè Joubert dispatched Karla Dulay and Tamilla Vaksman by an 8-1 score at No. 1.

In singles play, Cal Poly dropped only a combined five games at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 draws to secure the win.  Oedekerk was first off the court, defeating Vaksman, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5.  Reed captured a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Dulay at No. 3 and Hannah Stone clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 4 over Hall.

The Mustangs improved to 5-15 on the year, and advance to Friday’s quarterfinals against top-seeded Long Beach State at 8:00 a.m.  The Highlanders finished their season with a 4-18 record.
