Big West Women's Golf Championship Central
With four players listed in the top five of the leaderboard, defending champion UC Davis increased its lead by 12 strokes after day two of the 2015 Big West Women’s Golf Championship at the El Macero Country Club.

In the second round of play the Aggies bested their first-round score by seven strokes to sit seven-under with a 569 point total. Hawai’i carded a two-round total of 581 to sit second and is followed by UC Riverside (600). Long Beach State shot 301 on day two for a two-round total of 605, securing the fourth spot, and Cal Poly dropped to fifth after firing 315 on day two for a total of 608. Cal State Fullerton posted the third-lowest score of the day, 299, which moved them to sixth place with UC Irvine (614) and CSUN (622) rounding out the eight-team field.
While the Aggies have distanced themselves from the rest of the pack for the team title, the individual medalist honor remains a heated battle with five strokes separating first through fifth.
UC Davis’ Andrea Wong and Hawai’i’s Raquel Ek posted the low round of the day with a 4-under 68 to sit one-two on the leaderboard. Wong paces the field with a two-day total of 5-under 139 and Ek is one stroke back at 140. Directly behind Ek is UC Riverside’s Savannah Vilaubi with a two-round score of 3-under 141. Rounding out the top five is UC Davis’ Blair Lewis, who sits fourth at 1-under 143, and UC Davis duo Betty Chen and Paige Lee and Hawai’i’s Nichole Cruz are knotted in fifth after totaling an even-par 144.
The final round of action tees off Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30 a.m. with UC Irvine and CSUN. Live scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com and admission to the event is free.
The winning team advances to the NCAA Division I women’s regionals which are held at four sites this year from May 7-9. This year’s regional sites include Loonie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.; Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.; Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas; Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah. The six-day NCAA Women’s Golf Championship is scheduled for May 22-27 at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
