Big West Co-Ed Slow Pitch Softball Tournament Announcement

APRIL FOOLS!!!

The Big West Conference is proud to announce the creation of the Big West Co-Ed Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament for the 2016 season, to be hosted by the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.

Teams will be comprised of both baseball and softball players from each Big West institution, with no more than 22 student-athletes per team. Each team must have equal numbers of men and women. UC Irvine will be allowed to subsitute any female student-athletes from spring sports since they do not have a softball team.

The tournament will take place the first weekend of April each year, with baseball and softball teams taking a one-week hiatus from conference play.

"We feel that this is a great opportunity to showcase both baseball and softball players from across the Big West in a tournament setting," said Steve Chen, Director of New Media and Marketing. "With the NCAA automatic qualifier going to the baseball and the softball teams that win the co-ed title, there's a lot on the line. Considering how strong our baseball and softball teams are, we feel this is an chance to perhaps net an additional NCAA berth."

Hawai'i was chosen as the host of the 2016 tournament to take advantage of television opportunities.

Further details will be announced following the conclusion of the 2015 Big West baseball and softball seasons.
