BIG WEST AT A GLANCE
Conference Action Has Arrived
League play kicks off for the Big West with a pair of matches featuring No. 17 UC Santa Barbara at No. 10 UC Davis and No. 8 CSUN at No. 6 Hawai'i. The Gauchos finished in league a season ago while CSUN, Hawai'i and Davis finished in the two, the three and the six spot, respectively.
Thrice As Nice
Long Beach State has won three back-to-back after a sweep of its two games last weekend versus UC San Diego and San Diego State. In a 5-4 finish Saturday, the 49ers bested the Aztecs in an upset versus the No. 12 team in the nation. Freshman goalkeeper Marriette Harris collected 11 saves in the match while five different 49ers recorded a score thanks to Emily Matheson, Rachel Cretcher, Kayla Robert, Jessica Brooks and Virginia Smith. LBSU’s three-game win-streak is currently the best in league.
We Aren’t In Irvine Anymore
UC Irvine will make its first appearance in the Fluid Five Tournament in Bloomington, Ind. after a 1-1 mark last weekend versus San Diego State and USC. Irvine has not travelled farther eastward than Michigan since the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
UC Santa Barbara split its pair pf home matches last weekend with a 5-4 win over No. 19 UC San Diego and an 11-9 loss to CSU Bakersfield. Gaucho Camila Schafer led UCSB with a hat trick against Bakersfield while Samantha Murphy, Taylor Shore, Jenna Solberg and Sophie Trabucco all recorded two goals each over the weekend.
