The Big West Men's and Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week won a combined nine of 10 matches between them.

Donovan Shines At Pacific Mountain Invitational

Cal Poly sophomore Ben Donovan (Germantown, Tenn./Advantage Tennis Academy) won five of the six matches he participated in at the Pacific Mountain Invitational, earning Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.

Donovan was victorious in all three of his matches at No. 2 doubles with Corey Pang as the Mustangs finished in third place at the tournament.  The duo registered Cal Poly’s only victory against No. 45 New Mexico, a 6-3 decision over James Hignett and Augustus Ge.

In singles, he won twice in straight sets to help Cal Poly post 4-0 victories over Grand Canyon and Fresno State.

Facey Extends Singles Winning Streak To 10 Straight

Extending her winning streak in singles matches to 10 in a row, UC Irvine senior Kat Facey (Cameron Park, Calif./Ponderosa HS) earned her second consecutive Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week nod.

Facey steamrolled through both of her opponents at No. 3 singles.  She dispatched Eastern Michigan’s Daphne Friedrichs, 6-0, 6-3, to account for one of UCI’s two points.  Facey then knocked off Pacific’s Francis Dean by a 6-2, 6-1 score, helping the ‘Eaters to a tight 4-3 win.

Teaming with sister Ali Facey at No. 1 doubles, the pair improved to 8-3 on the year after winning their matches by 6-1 and 6-3 scores.
