Bacharach, Facey Earn Weekly Tennis Honors

Two upperclassmen from UC Davis and UC Irvine collected the weekly tennis honors for their outstanding performances in singles.

Bacharach Extends Singles Win Streak To Five


UC Davis junior Brett Bacharach (Newcastle, Calif./Del Oro HS) notched Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors as he won three of four matches and helped the Aggies rise six spots to No. 64 in the national rankings.

Bacharach earned a straight set 6-4, 6-3, win over San Francisco’s James Tallman at No. 3 singles and also teamed with Bryce McKelvie to take a, 6-3, victory over the Dons’ duo of Christian Brockstedt and Alex Santiago.

He helped the Aggies defeat Nevada, 5-2, on a windy day at home, doing his part in a tight three-set match with Fernando Sunago.  Bacharach prevailed, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to improve to 7-2 in duals this season in singles.  He has won five straight singles contests.

Facey Helps Anteaters To Back-To-Back Road Wins

Kat Facey (Cameron Park, Calif./Ponderosa HS) ran her season-opening streak in singles to eight straight wins, as the UC Irvine senior earned Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors

Facey was key in back-to-back, 4-3, victories at Hawai‘i-Pacific and Hawai‘i.  She topped both of her opponents in straight sets, and partnered with sister Ali Facey to help UCI capture the doubles point in each match.  Against HPU, the match went to doubles tied at 3-3.

Playing at No. 3 singles, Facey dispatched Hawai‘i-Pacific’s Vivian Hansen by a 6-4, 6-4 score, and came back the next day to down UH’s Martina Kostalova, 6-1, 6-1.
