UC Davis senior Sydnee Fipps (Mariposa, Calif./Yosemite HS) rewrote one school record and helped the team tie another in capturing Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors.
A 5-10 forward, Fipps recorded back-to-back 20-point efforts to help the Aggies split a pair of Big West games.
The two 20-point games gave her 32 for her career, setting a new UC Davis school record. In the 83-66 triumph over Long Beach State, Fipps drained five three-pointers, contributing heavily to the team’s barrage of 17 threes which tied the school single-game record. Fipps finished the game 7-for-11 from the field overall to go along with five rebounds, two assists, a steal and two blocked shots.
Fipps notched 13 of her game-high 20 points in Saturday’s 62-60 road loss to first place Hawai‘i, a game in which the Aggies had the final shot. She made seven of her 12 field goal attempts and six-of-seven from the free throw line while dishing out three assists.
For the week, Fipps shot an impressive 60.9 percent (14-of-23) from the field and 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from three-point range. She enters this week needing an even 100 points over the remainder of the season to become the UC Davis career scoring leader.
