A pair of sophomores from Cal Poly and Hawai‘i garnered the Big West tennis weekly honors for their clutch play in singles.
Auproux Helps Cal Poly To Two 4-3 Victories
Sophomore Garrett Auproux (Studio City, Calif./Burroughs HS) won both of his singles matches in helping Cal Poly to a pair of marathon non-conference victories, garnering Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.
Auproux notched a three-set win over Hayden Sabatka, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3, helping the Mustangs defeat No. 58 New Mexico by a 4-3 score. It was Cal Poly’s first point in a come-from-behind victory.
Cal Poly won its second match of the week by an identical 4-3 score over San Francisco, and Auproux collected his second victory from the No. 2 singles position. He defeated Nils Skajaa, 6-2, 7-6 (5).

Nguyen Defeats Nationally Ranked Opponent In Singles
Cindy Nguyen (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan HS) captured two impressive singles matches as the Hawai‘i sophomore notched Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
Against San Diego, with the match tied at 3-3, Nguyen earned the clinching point with a, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 triumph over Marta Stojanovic at No. 1 singles.
Nguyen also secured one of two Rainbow Wahine points against No. 41 Long Beach State, knocking off a ranked opponent in No. 99 Maeva Razakasoa. Nguyen defeated Razakasoa in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
