The nation’s No. 1 ranked three-point shooter dominated from distance once again with UC Davis senior Corey Hawkins (Goodyear, Ariz./Arizona State) earning the Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award for the fourth time in his career.
Shooting 52.6 percent (61-for-116) from three for the season, Hawkins bettered his average in two victories against UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly as the Aggies remained in a first place tie atop the Big West standings.
Hawkins shot 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from three-point land for the week. He also averaged 25.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals in an all-around stellar performance.
In a 70-64 triumph over the Gauchos, Hawkins finished with a game-high 28 points and tied his season high with six three-pointers (in eight attempts) while shooting 9-of-16 overall from the field. He also led the Aggies with six rebounds and three assists.
The Aggies held off a game Cal Poly squad, emerging with a hard fought 81-78 victory in overtime thanks in part to a 22-point performance from Hawkins to go along with a team-high six assists and five rebounds.
Hawkins recorded his 10th and 11th 20-plus point totals while making all but one of his eight free throw attempts. UC Davis also improved to 10-0 at home for the season.
