UC IRVINE LOOKS TO MAKE SPLASH
UC Irvine opens its 2015 season at the Stanford Invitational to kick off a schedule heavy with top 20 opponents according to the Collegiate Water Polo Association’s weekly poll. The Anteaters will face 16 of the 20 ranked squads just missing California and Arizona State. In addition, the ’Eaters have zero unranked schools on their slate as of yet. UCI rounded out the 2014 campaign with a No. 6 national ranking and will begin the clean slate in the same spot after a 25-9 overall record a year ago. The reigning Tournament title holder and regular season title holder looks for its sixth crown in both tourney play and in conference play.
GAUCHOS GET GOALS
UC Santa Barbara kicked off its 2015 campaign with a 16-1 victory over Azusa Pacific before picking up another big win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps after finding the back of the net 21 times. The Gauchos’ 20-plus goal game was the first since Jan. 29, 2013 versus Cal State San Bernardino when the Gauchos collected a 20-3 victory. Camila Schafer has had at least two goals in each game throughout the tournament and is currently the team leader in that category.
