Cal Poly Sweeps Fall Awards:
The Cal Poly men’s program claimed all three Big West Golfer of the Month awards during the fall season. Sophomore Mitch Martin claimed September’s honor while freshman Justin De Los Santos earned back-to-back honors for October and November. De Los Santos’ current 72.7 stroke average ranks him seventh in the Big West Conference.
Titan Men Open Spring Schedule In Arizona, Host Event:
Cal State Fulleton heads to Tucson, Ariz., to open the spring season at the Arizona Intercollegiate January 26-27. Later in the month, the Cal State Fulllerton men’s golf team hosts the Folino Invitational at the Industry Hills Golf Club in City of Industry, February 16-17. The 10-team field plays on the 18-hole, 72-par Eisenhower “Ike” course that measures 7,211 yards. Joining the Titans are Boise State, British Columbia, California Baptist, CSU Bakersfield, Grand Canyon, Sacramento State, Seattle, St. Bonaventure and UC Santa Barbara.
Aloha 2015 Spring Season:
The Amer Ari Invitational, hosted by Hawai’i and Hawai’i-Hilo, at the Waikoloa Kings Course February 5-7 kicks off the kicks off the month of February for the men’s team. Joining the Rainbow Wahine in Waikoloa, Hawai’i, are the UC Davis Aggies.
Later in the month Hawai’i hosts its second event of the season with the John A. Burns Intercollegiate Feb. 18-20. The three-day event takes place at the Wailua Golf Course in Lihue, Kaua’i, and features both the Rainbow Wahine and the Long Beach State 49ers from the Big West. California claimed its fourth consecutive title last season in the rain-shortened event, shooting a team total of 560 over 36 holes.
SoCal Events Kick Off Women’s Golf Spring Season:
Long Beach State and CSUN are slated to open the spring season for the women’s programs hosting their respective events on Feb. 9-10. The 49ers are headed to Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif., for The Gold Rush as the 11-team field tackles the par 72, 6,097 yard course. Big West teams joining the 49ers are Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, UC Riverside and Hawai’i.
The Matador Invitational takes place at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif. Last season, CSUN led from start to finish to capture the inaugural Matador Invitational title. Senior Matador Clariss Guce took home individual medalist honors with an even-par 216.
UC Irvine closes out February hosting the annual UCI Invitational Presented by Kia at the Santa Ana Country Club in Santa Ana, Calif., and will be joined by Big West opponents Long Beach State and UC Davis.
